Darren was born in Peckham South East London in 1966 and moved to Northampton with his family in 1974. On leaving school at 16 he became a mechanical engineer.
In 1987 joined the Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service where during his time there attended the fire at Windsor Castle.
In 1999 Darren transferred to the London Fire Brigade where he served in a variety of roles finishing in the Strategic Risk department. During his time with LFB Darren attended 7/7 as well as being part of LFB’s contingent at Buncefield.
In 2008 Darren transferred to Northamptonshire as an Area Manager, taking up the post of Head of Operations and Service Delivery. In August 2015 Darren became the Deputy Chief Fire Officer and then in April 2016 the Chief Fire Officer. During his tenure as Chief Fire Officer Darren has led the service through the transition from Northamptonshire County Council to become the only County Council Fire and Rescue Service to transfer its Governance to a Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner.
Darren has a BSc in Social Sciences with Politics and Economics, an MSc in Crisis and disaster management, has completed the Fire Service Executive Leadership Programme and is a Qualified Gold Commander.
